The Winton Doomsday

An Intriguing Snippet…

The Doomsday Book, the great survey of the lands and people of Britain, was initially kept in Winchester Castle.
Winchester was the main seat of national and county government, second in size only to London and was itself excluded from the original Doomsday Book.

The city was surveyed the following century and the result is a beautifully bound book called the ‘Winton Doomsday’
