The Factory Acts in C19th Britain

The factory acts were put in place at the beginning of the C19th after the efforts of the reform movement in the latter years of the C18th.
They were intended to regulate factory conditions especially in relation to women and children and so bring about an improvement in the health of those working in mills and factories.
