James Cook (1728-1779), navigator, was born on 27 October 1728 at Marton-in-Cleveland, Yorkshire, England, the son of a Scottish labourer and his Yorkshire wife.
Humble beginnings that led onto a life of discovery adventure and pioneering the basis of sea navigation. So accurate were the chart surveys of Cook’s expeditions that the plumb line points are till the basis of our modern carts today, despite the progress of technology.
