Ancestry are demoing on their site an interactive Map with images set in context similar to History Pin. Being keen and intrigued by maps and their power for exploring history it is an interesting start. With all the good work Ancestry does great work and keeps buying software tools and adding them in but would be good to see some innovative tools staying out the big 5 players. As the market for API’s matures it might be better to leave the start-ups to make their money with apps and integrate the data using apis (application programming interfaces) This basically is geek-speak for automating the sharing and integration of data with the app or website. Anyway more of that to come, My Heritage is already publishing it’s APIS, Ancestry isn’t but Family Search do… Interesting times ahead folks..
